2020 Houston Auto Show: No Pressure to Buy and Fun to Test Drive
2020 Houston Auto Show:
Open Now Thru January 26th
The Houston Auto Show hosted the Texas Auto Writers Association members. All thoughts are 100% my own.
Freely explore car brands, ask questions without the pressure to buy, and experience test drives, off-roading, and more!
This is one of my favorite auto shows, where I learn the most about cars, trucks, and SUVs from sitting in each seat and gain a new perspective. I’m looking for a midsize SUV to upgrade from our sedan, so it opened up our eyes to the possibilities. We brought our stroller and gear, which we needed on our media shoot. It helped us visualize what vehicles could work for us, which we might not have realized without this experience. If you’re on a quest to find the perfect vehicle for your needs, I strongly suggest bringing the whole family, so you can get everyone’s input. After all, if you’re going to enjoy it for a while, you might as well find out what best suits all of your needs. There were a lot of great vehicles, and I wanted to highlight what caught my eye.
Sneak peek into the Kia Seltos
Since this was the only Kia Seltos on the floor, it was exciting to get up on stage and take a seat inside. This one should be on the market in the next month or two, so stay tuned for more updates via Kia! If you’re curious, I couldn’t stop raving about the seat ergonomics. These will hug you comfortably with enough leg room, and that’s what should be expected from an SUV. With all of the safety technology, this all wheel drive SUV will help you keep an eye on the road and assist you in lane departure, too. Whether you’re driving solo or with all of life’s precious cargo (your family), it’s a great starter SUV for a new family. I noticed the backseat height is perfect for installing a carseat! This is a win for me.
More things that I loved:
Sleek exterior details enhancing the gorgeous Starbright Yellow paint
5-passenger seating with an affordable luxury infotainment center
Driver Assist Technology
I wanted it to have a larger trunk space, but this would be great for the minimalists in your life. I think we all could take a page out of living a little more with a little less baggage.
The 2021 Mustang that isn’t a mustang— and It has grown on me…
This pony is new to the family. Embrace the future of the Mach E!
I grew up with Ford Mustangs in my life. It was my first car and it holds a special place in my heart. Although this is not the same car, I’ve learned to accept that we are in need of electric vehicles and the Mach E brings something different to the road. This was our sneak peek. It is estimated to drive around on a 300-mile trip, and it zips 0-60 in 3 seconds. Don’t write this SUV off. Did I also mention you can charge 10 minutes and gain 47 miles of driving? I’ve always admired the large touch-screens in trucks, but this SUV will be the envy with all 15.5 inches of it. I’d need it in this Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint color stat.
Enjoy your own adjustments with personalized profiles, so you and the other driver in your life can change everything from the seats, mirrors, radio, lighting, and instrumental panel. Talk about making your ride customized to the nines here. For the price, you can’t go wrong either. Starting at $43,895, it’s nimble, luxurious, smart, and coming for Tesla hard. Do you know how hard it is to wait until late 2020 for this one? You can reserve with Ford now, so you can get on the list. Want to save money with a tax credit? You can get a $7,500 federal tax cut, but you’ll have to wait until early 2021.
It’s electric! Give me that taycan.
The gorgeous Porsche Taycan’s Fixed Panoramic Roof in Glass sets this paint job off and certainly stands out from the electric car community. Starting at $103,800, I’ll happily talk to my car and get it to make life easier with a quick, “Hey Porsche!” Voice is the future along with electric vehicles, so step ahead of the curve with the voice control features. You can set up home charging and map out your trips with charging stations. The app is helpful, too, because you can see the charging level and set the temperature to your liking. It’s all about the upgrade, baby. I wish I could’ve given this one a test drive, but for now, I pleasantly got to admire it from the showroom floor here.
495 Horsepower waiting for you
Who says a two-seater is out of the question?! You don’t need that negativity in your life. Celebrate the Chevrolet heritage with this beauty. The 2020 Corvette Stingray is quite the coveted, sexy little thing soon to hit the market. “Where are we going in our new Corvette?” Everywhere. Fast. Go from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and let your hair down if you choose the convertible option. Chevrolet moved the driver closer to the front, while swapping the trunk upfront. (Basically, the windshield is over the front wheels for improved downforce, and the engine behind you puts more weight on the rear tires for more controlled power.) I’d love to take one of these home, or if it is out of the budget for you like me right now, at best, taking this one to the track would make my day. :)
The Small Crossover SUV with fuel efficiency: 2020 Mazda CX30
From the crisp exterior paint color to the plush leather detail, the 2020 Mazda CX30 aesthetics draw you into the driver side door. This small crossover SUV has a lot of luxury options at an affordable price starting at $21,900. There’s ample space in the front and back seat, an infotainment screen with a selection knob, stitched leather, and safety features I think every vehicle should have standard. Adding blind spot detection is impressive and encouraging for all types of drivers to feel confident behind the wheel. I’m ready for a test drive back in Austin for this one.
You can still rock a coupe, parents, but it might be easier to load in and out with the 4-door!
I’m currently reviewing the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack, so of course, I’m drawn to the Dodge Charger. It has 4 doors, so ideally, it’ll be much easier to install a car seat and load my toddler in and out faster. Don’t get me wrong, you can still rock a stunning Challenger with one kid strapped in the back, but the Charger feels just as mighty. I think it’s pretty cool that the Dodge Charger Scat Pack has 485 horsepower just like the Challenger. We’re swapping the Challenger for the Charger next week, so I’ll keep you posted on A Girls Guide to Cars. For now, you can take a seat in the Charger and experience it for yourself. Our family might make Dodge come home. This had ample space in the backseat and the trunk can hold all of our gear. It does 19 in the city and 30 on the highway, so it could be a future contender if we don’t opt for an SUV.
